Work Group for Community Health and Development honored


LAWRENCE — The KU Work Group for Community Health and Development has been honored by two national organizations. The Division of the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps awarded the Community Tool Box with the Medical Corps Reserve Partnership Organization Award. This award honors MRC partner organizations or partnerships that support MRC units in carrying out their local missions. The Community Tool Box partnered with MRC to provide capacity building support for their public health workforce of more than 200,000 volunteers around the United States.

The Society for Community Research and Action, Division 27 of the American Psychological Association awarded the Community Tool Box the John Kalafat Community Program Award for its “global contribution to our field.”

The Community Tool Box is developed and maintained by the Work Group for Community Health and Development with national and international partners.

The Tool Box provides more than 7,000 pages of practical information to support community health and development work. The focus is on practical skills, such as conducting a meeting or a participatory evaluation that help community organizers create conditions for health and human development. The Tool Box now reaches more than 2.5 million users annually in 229 countries around the world.
