Parking Open Forum to highlight new rates, upcoming changes, survey responses
LAWRENCE — Among the many changes identified in the 2014–2024 University of Kansas Campus Master Plan are significant plans for the future of vehicle and pedestrian access to campus. Those issues and proposed rate increases for the 2014–2015 academic year will be the primary topics at the spring Parking Forum hosted by KU Parking & Transit at 2 p.m. Monday, April 7, in the Big 12 Room of the Kansas Union.
In advance to the forums, Parking & Transit has posted three surveys to gather campus feedback. The surveys will remain open after the forums:
The most pressing concern identified in the Campus Master Plan is current maintenance. The Parking Commission is considering price increases for the 2014–2015 academic year to begin addressing the significant maintenance concerns identified during the planning process. A breakdown of the proposed rates has been posted online.

In addition, the forum will include presentations on the loss of current parking spaces due to current and upcoming construction, including construction on Daisy Hill, renovation of Jayhawk Boulevard, construction of the School of Business and the new Earth, Energy, and Environment Center, and future buildings along Innovation Way.
The forum will begin the conversation to replace KU’s current “hunting permit” system – by which permit holders “hunt” for parking in multiple designated lots – with a more sustainable model. The entire KU community will be engaged in developing a reimagined parking system.
In accordance with university policy, Parking & Transit hosts two open forums each academic year. General issues included in these comments will be summarized and shared with the Parking Commission.
