Plan ahead for move-in day traffic Aug. 17

LAWRENCE — Lawrence residents and employees of the University of Kansas should avoid areas near KU residence halls on Thursday, Aug. 17, which is the primary move-in day for student housing residents.

Streets around the newly constructed Downs Residence Hall on 19th Street and the Daisy Hill Halls on Iowa Street will see heavy traffic. Other congested intersections are expected at:

  • Bob Billings Parkway and Crestline Drive
  • 21st and Iowa streets
  • 11th and Louisiana streets, location of Gertrude Sellards Pearson Residence Hall

Those who work in KU’s west district should be able to park in or near their regular parking lots. The Irving Hill Road bridge (over Iowa Street) will be a one-way, eastbound road for move-in traffic only on the 17th. If you have questions about available parking or routes on that day, call KU Parking and Transit, 785-864-PARK (7275).

All incoming KU Student Housing residents received a map and these instructions about move-in day. If announcements related to severe weather are needed during move-in day, tune to Kansas Public Radio at 91.5 FM.

For media:
Media are welcome to attend the event, but news vehicles will not be allowed to cross Irving Hill Bridge and enter the line of cars going to Daisy Hill.
