Spencer Museum invites Lawrence to Day of Creativity

LAWRENCE — The Spencer Museum of Art invites the University of Kansas and Lawrence communities to explore creative processes across disciplines at the Day of Creativity. The free community event will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Spencer Museum.

A variety of university and community partners will facilitate more than 15 demonstrations, performances and hands-on activities for all ages. Activities include creating a plant press, recording and sharing oral histories, and writing poetry inspired by art on display. Demonstrations include learning about lichens, silkscreen printing and licorice tasting. Performances include the band Balacobaco do Brasil at 1 p.m. and acrobats from The Last Carnival at 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

“The Day of Creativity encourages people of all ages to awaken their creative sides through unique experiences related to ideas about place,” said Kristina Walker, the Spencer Museum’s director of education and interpretation.

The theme for this year’s event is inspired by the Spencer Museum’s current exhibition “The Power of Place: KU Alumni Artists,” which features work by 30 artists who earned degrees at KU.
