School of Business announces academic area leadership appointments

LAWRENCE — Two new University of Kansas School of Business faculty members have been named directors of its Management and Entrepreneurship academic area and its Analytics, Information and Operations Management (AIO) academic area.

Brian Anderson, a professor of entrepreneurship, has been appointed as the school’s Management and Entrepreneurship academic area director. Debabrata "Deb" Dey has been appointed as the Davis AIO Area Director Professor, a position recently named through a $1 million gift from alumnus Roger Davis and his wife, Julie. Both Anderson and Dey joined the School of Business in July.

Brian AndersonBrian Anderson earned his doctorate in strategic management from the Kelly School of Business at Indiana University. His research centers on strategic entrepreneurship, focusing on causal inference, measurement issues and Bayesian treatment of the entrepreneurial orientation and strategic entrepreneurial behavior constructs. Anderson’s research has appeared in leading entrepreneurship and management journals, and he serves as an associate editor for strategic entrepreneurship at the Journal of Business Venturing and on the editorial board of Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice.

He previously taught at Western University, the University of Colorado and the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he was executive associate dean at the Bloch School of Management. He has affiliated appointments at Ghent University, Osaka University of Economics and the University of Bayreuth.

Debabrata "Deb" DeyDebabrata "Deb" Dey, who also serves as the school’s Ronald G. Harper Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Information Systems, earned his doctorate in computers and information systems from the Simon Business School at the University of Rochester. His current primary research interests are in information economics, digital piracy, information security and business analytics. Dey’s research has been published in leading information systems and computer science academic journals. He has served as a senior editor for Information Systems Research and as associate editors for Management Science, Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, INFORMS Journal on Computing and Information Technology & Management. Currently, he is an associate editor of Information Systems Research.

Dey previously was the Marion B. Ingersoll Professor of Information Systems at the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business. He was also the department chair and the founding faculty director of the master's in information systems program at the Foster School of Business.

Anderson takes over as Management and Entrepreneurship area director from Clint Chadwick, Howard Fitch/Fred Ball Professor, who had served in the role since 2017. Dey succeeds Jide Wintoki, associate dean of graduate programs, who had served as AIO area director since 2019.
