Donations sought for Professional Clothing Closet
LAWRENCE — Delta Epsilon Iota honor society will stage its annual clothing drive next month, focusing on professional apparel for the benefit of University of Kansas students.
The accepted clothing will stock the Professional Clothing Closet, located in the University Career Center, 110 Burge Union, which provides free apparel to be worn to job interviews or career fairs.
Nearly 200 students have accepted items from the closet since it opened in February 2010.
“Due to the continued use of the Professional Clothing Closet by KU students, we are definitely in need of new items, especially modern suits. We had great success with the drive last year and with the program as a whole, so I’m really looking forward to the response this year,” said Erin Wolfram, assistant director at the University Career Center and DEI adviser.
This year, the list of items DEI is looking for includes:
• Full suits (coat and pants or skirt)
• Contemporary suit jackets or blazers
• Shirts/blouses appropriate to wear underneath a suit coat
• Dress slacks
• Skirts in darker colors (black, brown or dark gray)
• Ties
• Briefcases
• Portfolios
Donations can be dropped off in November at the following locations:
• University Career Center, 110 Burge Union
• Business Career Services Center, Summerfield Hall
• Journalism Career Center, 120 Stauffer-Flint Hall
• Engineering Career Center, 1001 Eaton Hall
• KU Athletics, Anschutz Sports Pavilion
• KU Edwards Campus
The University Career Center also will accept donations year-round.
Any items that are not accepted will be donated to local charities in Lawrence, and any monetary donations received for the clothing items will go to St. Jude’s Children’s Miracle Network.
Delta Epsilon Iota strives to promote the ideals of dedication, enthusiasm and initiative at KU through student leadership, special programs coordinated with the University Career Center, campus and community service projects, and regular networking opportunities for members.
