Dole Institute to host 4th annual White House-style Easter event

Fri, 02/22/2019

LAWRENCE – The Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas has announced details today for its fourth annual Easter Egg Roll with Dole. The event will be 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 20, at the Dole Institute. The event is free and open to the public, and it will go on rain or shine.

The Dole Institute’s Easter Egg Roll with Dole features White House-style egg roll races, egg hunts, crafts and games. For the fourth year, the Lawrence Public Library will partner with the institute on the event, hosting two special storytimes for children in attendance. The event also features a petting area with live bunnies and a special photo backdrop.

Children of all ages are welcome for this popular event, which welcomed over 700 guests in 2018. All children in attendance receive a special gift when departing the event, which includes candy from the egg hunt.

The Dole Institute’s event is inspired by the White House Easter Egg Roll, held every year on the White House South Lawn. This festive tradition began in 1878 under the administration of President Rutherford B. Hayes, and successive presidents have carried it on to present day.

The Dole Institute of Politics is dedicated to promoting political and civic participation, civil discourse and public service in a bipartisan, philosophically balanced manner. It is located in KU’s West District and houses the Dole Archive and Special Collections. Through its robust public programming, congressional archive and museum, the Dole Institute strives to celebrate public service and the legacies of former U.S. Senators Bob Dole and Elizabeth Dole. The institute also offers a wide variety of educational opportunities for K-12 students, teachers and homeschool families.

More information on all institute programs and educational offerings can be found online at www.doleinstitute.org.
