KU Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science establishes Distinguished Service Award

LAWRENCE — The Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science in the University of Kansas School of Engineering is launching a new award to recognize distinguished alumni and dedicated associates of the department.

The KU EECS Distinguished Service (KEDS) award is designed to recognize distinguished alumni and dedicated associates of the KU EECS department. Recipients should demonstrate outstanding career achievements that have advanced the fields of electrical engineering, computer engineering or computer science. Additionally, recipients should demonstrate contributions to KU EECS, as well as exemplary contributions in areas including community outreach, leadership, business, technical or academic roles.

The inaugural KEDS award will be given to two recipients in spring 2022. These award winners were scored by the EECS advisory board against other candidates and approved by the EECS department chair. They will receive acknowledgment during the department’s awards banquet in late April.

“The KU EECS Department has an impressive and growing list of distinguished alumni and associates over its rich history, which spans over 130 years,” said Brian Ruf, KU EECS advisory board chair. “We felt that it was time to begin to more formally acknowledge and celebrate these individuals and their accomplishments.”

Nominations are open for the 2023 KEDS award(s) candidates. The advisory board strongly encourages nominations from anyone inside or outside of the department for candidates who align with the KEDS award mission statement. Nominations are especially encouraged for candidates from underrepresented groups. Nominate a candidate or complete KEDs award application.
