LAWRENCE — It's time to celebrate Jayhawk colleagues' achievements: KU News Service accepted submissions and combed websites, social media and newsletters for recent external honors and awards for current faculty and staff at the Lawrence, Edwards and Medical Center campuses and affiliates. Sandra Billinger, professor of physical therapy, rehabilitation science & athletic training, was selected by the board of directors for the World Health Organization in Switzerland for its "Women In Stroke" initiative celebrating the achievements and careers of outstanding women in the field for International Women's Day.

Aaron Carbuhn, assistant professor of dietetics & nutrition, received a 2022 Service Award from the Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians Association. He was recognized during the association's annual conference May 16-18 in Scottsdale, Arizona. 

“Words Is a Powerful Thing: Twenty Years of Teaching Creative Writing at Douglas County Jail,” by Brian Daldorph, senior lecturer in English, was named a 2022 Kansas Notable Book by the State Library of Kansas.

Department of Applied Behavioral Science faculty members Claudia Dozier, Pamela Neidert and Jomella Watson-Thompson were recently elected as advisers to the Cambridge Center for Behavioral Studies.

Teri Finneman, associate professor of journalism, will receive the exceptional service award from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication History Division in August for her work on behalf of the field of journalism history.

Kay Folck, clinical assistant professor of health information management, received the 2022 Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award from the Missouri Health Information Management Association. She was honored at the association's annual meeting in April 2022 in Branson, Missouri.

Melissa Greene-Blye, assistant professor of journalism, is the recipient of the Joseph McKerns Research Grant awarded by the American Journalism Historians Association. The grant will support travel and other research costs associated with an upcoming research project examining the historical context in which the Native press was founded and its work educating, informing and advocating for Native communities on issues of interest and import to those communities.

Maki Kaneko, associate professor of art history, been awarded a 2022-23 Terra Foundation Senior Fellowship in American Art at the Smithsonian American Art Museum to support her research project, “Collaged Memories: Jimmy Tsutomu Mirikitani's 'Sidewalk Art.'"

Donna Logan, volunteer clinical assistant professor in family & community medicine, is the recipient of the American Academy of Family Physicians 2022 Exemplary Teaching Awards Volunteer Teaching Award. 

Prints by Yoonmi Nam, professor of visual art, were featured in the recent exhibition "BETWEEN WORLDS - MOKUHANGA" at Kentler International Drawing Space, Brooklyn, New York.

Tyann Orton, assistant dean for finance, Administrative & Financial Services, has been named one of Wichita Business Journal's Women Who Lead-Education. 

Russell Swerdlow, professor in the departments of Neurology, Molecular & Integrative Physiology and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, is a bronze-level winner of the Oskar Fischer Prize from the University of Texas at San Antonio for Alzheimer's research.

Crystal Burkhardt, clinical professor in the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy, has been selected to participate in the Academic Leadership Fellows Program, coordinated by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. Burkhardt is one of 35 aspiring leaders nationally selected for AACP’s yearlong fellows program.

The Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA) has honored Kent Spreckelmeyer, professor of architecture at the University of Kansas School of Architecture & Design, with the 2022 EDRA Career Award in recognition of his sustained and significant contributions to environmental design research, practice and teaching.

The International Congress of Infant Studies awarded John Colombo, Life Span Studies director and interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, with its 2022 Translational Research Award.

Kimberly Templeton, professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, has been recognized for her work in advocacy, research and education. She was honored by the American Medical Association Foundation, the Women’s Health Congress and the National Board of Medical Examiners.
