Lawrence campus 2022 United Way campaign launches Aug. 27

LAWRENCE — The annual Lawrence campus campaign for the United Way begins Saturday, Aug. 27, when University of Kansas employees are encouraged to attend the Unite and Take Flight event at the Lawrence Regional Airport. Daytime events include children’s activities, food truck, aircraft displays, as well as plane and helicopter rides. The evening dinner party will include raffle items, photo ops and more.

Lawrence campus employees may find ways to volunteer locally, donate and ideas for department fundraising at the campus United Way website. The goal for the 2022 campaign is $111,000. Although the workplace campaign ends Dec. 9, the need for donations never stops. Online donations can be made directly to the organization.

The mission of the United Way of Douglas County is fighting poverty and improving lives by uniting Douglas County — a mission that will not change with the upcoming merger of the United Way of Douglas County with the United Way of Greater Topeka to form the United Way of Kaw Valley in early 2023.

Douglas County will continue to have a local United Way office. All money raised in Douglas County will stay in Douglas County. Committees of Douglas County stakeholders will continue to guide local community impact and fundraising. The Roger Hill Volunteer Center will continue to operate by providing volunteer opportunities, facilitate the AmeriCorps program and support its many other community activities.
