Red Hot Research returns for its 12th year

LAWRENCE — Red Hot Research returns for three sessions this fall, offering a fast-paced, presentation-style event from The Commons at the University of Kansas as a way of introducing colleagues to one another.

Events are planned Sept. 29, Oct. 27 and Nov. 3. All begin at 4 p.m. and will take place at Watson Library, 3 West.

The first event Sept. 29 has a theme of “Activism, Power and Gender” and will feature the following KU presenters:

• Rana Esfandiary, assistant professor in the Department of Theatre & Dance
• Kelly Sharron, assistant teaching professor in the Department of Sociology and of Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies
• Christina Holt, assistant director, Center for Community Health & Development, part of the Life Span Institute
• Faye Xiao, professor in the Department of East Asian Languages & Cultures
• Alesia Woszidlo, associate professor in the Department of Communication Studies

The Oct. 27 event will have the theme “Communication, Expression and Language.” Presenters will be announced soon.

The final session Nov. 3 will focus on graduate research, curated and emceed by Meg Smith, who is pursuing a master’s degree in museum studies and works for The Commons as a graduate assistant.

In keeping with the goals of this series, presenters are asked to consider how other disciplinary perspectives might offer helpful ideas to their work, the likely next steps for the research and challenges that they face in conducting the research. In turn, audience members are asked to, from their own perspectives, offer insights, questions and ideas.
