Master’s degree in educational technology now available fully online

LAWRENCE — The Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies at the University of Kansas will offer its master’s degree in educational technology in a fully online delivery format beginning in spring 2019.

The program is designed for PK-12 teachers, collegiate-level instructors and private-sector instructional designers, and it provides training in the integration of technology into classroom teaching.

Similar to the current master’s degree in educational technology offered on-campus, the new fully online version of the program requires 30 credit hours for completion and can be finished in as few as two years. The program includes comprehensive coursework in instructional media and learning technology, online learning design, social media, gamification and constructivism, and it includes a research-driven master’s project that can yield immediately applicable learning designs.

“This program challenges contemporary educators to become increasingly adept in the integration, design and administration of learning technology, which is a rapidly growing trend at all levels of education,” said Youngjin Lee, associate professor and program director. “It is ideal for professionals who want to explore the incorporation of mobile learning, virtual reality, simulations, gamified learning and other technological advances in the classroom.”

To enhance the online learning experience and provide a more engaging educational environment, the master’s degree program provides students access to a dynamic digital classroom and mobile application called KU Connect. The KU Connect tool allows students work remotely from any location and on any device.

Applications for admission will be accepted through Dec. 28 for a January 2019 class start. More information about the online master’s in educational technology can be found here.

The Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies is housed in the School of Education, a nationally ranked school preparing educators and health/sport/exercise professionals as leaders.
