KU, City of Lawrence announce improvements to bus routes, new website

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas and City of Lawrence are announcing several changes to improve services. Annual changes are intended to improve access to the city and campus, adjust service frequency and make the best use of resources available.
This year, six routes are affected. In some cases, the frequency of service will change, and in other cases, the route alignment will shift. Service changes will go into effect Monday, Aug. 1.
“We are always looking for ways to make improvements so we can better serve the community,” said Robert Nugent, city transit administrator. “In addition to route changes, this year we are launching a redesigned website that will be up-to-date and easier to use.”
Features of the redesigned site include simplified navigation, streamlined design, mobile-friendly options and new content. The site already reflects the new routes and times that go into effect Monday.
This year’s service changes are:
• Route 1 – Frequency improved to 30 minutes. Service added to Prairie Park.
• Route 3 – Minor changes to Flex service zone.
• Route 4 – Route extended to 9th & Iowa. Frequency changed to 60 minutes.
• Route 5 – Minor changes in timing and routing near East Hills Business Park.
• Route 10 – Route now serves University in both directions.
• Route 11 – Simplified and improved alignment.
