KU chancellor to narrate Copland's 'Lincoln Portrait' at scholarship concert

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas School of Music will present its second annual School of Music Scholarship Concert, featuring a reading by Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 30, at the Lied Center of Kansas.

This concert will feature the KU Symphony Orchestra, Choirs and Wind Ensemble performing a variety of works, highlighted by a reading of Copland’s Lincoln Portrait by Gray-Little. The entire program can be found online.

"Scholarships for talented music students are the lifeblood of any great music school," said Dean Robert Walzel. "We present this annual concert to highlight the ever-increasing need for scholarship funds, and we also want to honor those individuals who so graciously support KU students through music scholarships."

This concert is free for all Lawrence-area high school and KU students (students must show a valid ID). General admission tickets are $10, and senior citizens are $5. Tickets are available through the Lied Center Box Office.

Financial support for this concert and for the Student Scholarship Fund of the KU School of Music has been provided by Reach Out Kansas, the Zakoura Family Fund and the Law Offices of Smithyman & Zakoura – Overland Park, Kansas.
