Environmental, public health policy expert can discuss blocking of EPA emission limits

LAWRENCE — A University of Kansas expert who studies how decision-makers balance competing and often conflicting needs to address environmental and public health problems is available to discuss Monday's U.S. Supreme Court ruling on coal-fired power plant emissions.

The divided court ruled 5-4 to block an Environmental Protection Agency regulation meant to limit emissions of mercury and other toxic pollutants from power plants.

Dorothy Daley, an associate professor with a joint appointment in the School of Public Affairs & Administration and the Environmental Studies Program, specializes in public policy analysis with a particular emphasis on environmental and health policy. She was recently awarded a three-year National Science Foundation grant to examine how U.S. state and local climate risk governance affects environmental performance. The research team is analyzing greenhouse gas emissions from more than 7,000 facilities in nine sections, including power plants and refineries.
