KU buses get face-lift

LAWRENCE — Classes are back in session, and students across campus are running to catch buses to Daisy Hill and downtown.

But some of those buses look a bit different than they have in the past.

KU on Wheels has unveiled three buses with sleek new graphics designed by KU Marketing Communications. The designs feature the university's standard crimson and blue colors and include the KU signature and logo on the side of the bus. The sides of the bus also feature a large Jayhawk.

Meanwhile, the fronts of the buses feature a mostly yellow design element that an out-of-towner might call an upside-down triangle, but a KU student would clearly recognize it as an artistic reinterpretation of a Jayhawk beak.

The buses also serve the larger Lawrence community. In addition to three on-campus circulator routes, KU provides three off-campus routes plus two routes jointly operated with the city of Lawrence. KU students, staff and faculty can ride any public transit service in Lawrence by showing their KU Card — no fare required.

“For a small community, Lawrence and the University of Kansas have a robust transit system that provided over 3.2 million rides last year,” said Danny Kaiser, associate director of Parking and Transit. “We are excited to offer our standard services such as SafeRide and SafeBus, along with a few new things this semester.”

• KU on Wheels off-campus routes now leave campus for the last trip of the day after 6 p.m. in order to accommodate students with late afternoon classes.
