LAWRENCE — The Emily Taylor Center for Women and Gender Equity and the Men & Masculinities Workgroup will host the third annual Men & Masculinities Symposium from noon to 5 p.m. Nov. 15 in the Kansas Memorial Union. The symposium is open to all University of Kansas students, faculty and staff.

The symposium will also consist of facilitated discussions, presentations and intergroup dialogues focused on engaging men at KU about a variety of topics around masculinity and issues that men face today. They will discuss, define and model positive masculinity as well as learn about the effects of identified issues on both individual participants and the overall KU community.

Staff and Men & Masculinities Workgroup member Dustin Struble has been actively involved with this program.

“This program continues to be a much needed opportunity to engage in dialogue on how we perceive masculinity on campus, in the community and even on a global scale. There is a real opportunity to positively influence the way men on our campus express masculinity through merely pointing out example of unhealthy masculinity in the media,” Struble said.

The Men & Masculinities Symposium is one of several events The Emily Taylor Center for Women and Gender Equity hosts each year to address issues regarding men and masculinity. The Center provides information, resources and involvement opportunities for men that are interested in learning more about why gender matters.
