Prominent magazine honors internal auditor

LAWRENCE — Cate Neeley, assistant director and internal audit manager at the University of Kansas, has been named a 2015 Emerging Leader by Internal Auditor magazine. She shares the honor with 14 other practitioners who are taking innovative approaches to changing how the business world views the profession.

Neeley joined the KU Internal Audit Office in September 2014. Among her responsibilities, she directs the internal audit activities performed at the KU Medical Center campus. Her previous positions include assistant director in the KU Comptroller’s Office and audit project manager with Sprint’s internal audit department. She has a master’s degree in business administration from KU and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Pittsburg State University. She is a certified internal auditor.

 “Neeley’s selection speaks to her significant accomplishments and development as a leader in the internal audit profession,” said John Curran, director of Internal Audit.

The honorees are featured in the magazine’s December cover story, “On the Rise,” which profiles each one’s passion for change as well as their impressive advancement early in their internal audit careers.

“It is difficult not to get caught up in the excitement and desire these young professionals bring to their jobs,” said Anne Millage, editor-in-chief of Internal Auditor. “Each year I am more impressed by the caliber of their work, their passion for internal auditing and their commitment to make the profession and their organizations better.”

The emerging leaders were selected by a panel of judges comprising some of the most distinguished audit professionals in the industry. Nominees were judged in six broad areas: professionalism, leadership, certifications, advocacy, community service and innovative thinking.
