Anonymous donor funds scholarships for KU Boot Camps
OVERLAND PARK — Through a $50,000 grant from an anonymous donor to KU Endowment, scholarships for two popular boot camp programs at the University of Kansas will be available to local low-income individuals interested in digital careers.
KU Boot Camps — which cover coding, data analytics, cybersecurity, digital marketing and tech project management — provide professionals the training and experience needed for a career in technology. This scholarship is applicable to the Coding Boot Camp and Digital Marketing Boot Camp. Offered through the University of Kansas Lifelong & Professional Education, these boot camps equip participants with key skills in as few as 18 weeks.
“KU Boot Camps rapidly upskill people in areas that are in high demand by local employers,” said Sharon Graham, vice provost of KU Lifelong & Professional Education. “As a result, these programs benefit both the student’s career development and the industries that are struggling to find enough people to employ.”
Scholarships will be available starting with September's Coding Boot Camp and the Digital Marketing Boot Camp in November. Applications are now open.
The scholarship will cover 70% of the program cost, making it the largest scholarship opportunity available for the boot camps, powered by 2U Inc. brand Trilogy Education. People with low income and of historically underrepresented groups residing in Johnson County and contiguous counties are eligible to apply.
Due to the popularity of the boot camp programs, which have graduated hundreds over the last few years, this funding is expected to go quickly.
“There has been a high interest in the boot camp programs due to their success in quickly and efficiently educating students to enter growing fields,” Graham said. “We are thankful to have support in making these programs more accessible.”
Other financial support may be available to individuals looking to enhance their skillset through a KU Boot Camp. More information is available by calling 913-439-1919.
