KU Kudos: Recent Jayhawk faculty, staff achievements
LAWRENCE — It's time to celebrate Jayhawk colleagues' achievements: For the third edition of KU Kudos, KU News Service accepted submissions and combed websites, social media and newsletters for recent external honors and awards for current faculty and staff at the Lawrence, Edwards and Medical Center campuses. Several faculty members and staff from the schools of Health Professions and Medicine, including Shelley Bhattacharya, Sandra Billinger, Karen Bock, Linda D'Silva, Chun-Kai Huang, Patricia Kluding, Scarlett Morris, Katie Siengsukon and Prasanna Vaduvathiriyan, presented at the American Physical Therapy Association's 2022 Combined Sections Meeting, which took place Feb. 3-5 in San Antonio.
Jerry Crawford, associate professor of journalism, has been asked to be the editor of a special edition of the Journal of Media Education. Crawford is working with JoME’s diversity initiative for an issue that will focus on teaching, innovation and research at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), Hispanic serving institutions (HSIs) and tribal colleges and universities (TCUs).
Arpita Ghosh, assistant professor of educational psychology, was elected as the American Psychological Association Division 19, Society for Military Psychology, ECP Committee chair.
Florence DiGennaro Reed, professor and chair of the Department of Applied Behavioral Science, is an invited speaker to the Women in Behavior Analysis Conference. She will speak on "Influential Women Researchers in Organizational Behavior Management" at the event in July 2022.
Three KU staff members were named to the 2022 class of Leadership Lawrence. Jena Gunther, associate director of the Institute for Policy & Social Research; Kristina Mease, director of the KU Small Business Development Center; and Brian Moss, references service manager for KU Libraries, are taking part in this professional development opportunity to learn more about Lawrence and Douglas County management as well as take part in leadership training.
Steven Johnson Jr., assistant dean of diversity, equity, inclusion & belonging with the KU School of Business, will be honored at the American College Personnel Association conference with the Outstanding Contribution to Multicultural Affairs Award.
Wayne Sailor, professor of special education and co-director of the KU SWIFT Education Center, received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the December 2021 TASH Conference. Sailor was a co-founder of TASH in 1975, which has become an international leader in disability advocacy. TASH advocates for human rights and inclusion for people with significant disabilities and support needs.

Three KU School of Social Welfare faculty members have been named editors of the Journal of Community Practice. Michelle Mohr Carney, dean and professor; Amy Mendenhall, professor and associate dean for research & faculty development; and Deborah Adams, associate professor and MSW program director, will serve a three-year term for the journal.
Two members of the KU Department of Theatre & Design were honored for work in Region V for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Darci Jens Fulcher, visiting assistant professor for movement direction, was honored for “Musings of Fire,” spring 2021. Ann Sitzman, technical coordinator for the department, was honored for lighting design on “Head Over Heels,” fall 2021.
Donna Ginther, Roy A. Roberts Distinguished Professor of economics and director of the Institute for Policy & Social Research, has been named Regents Distinguished Professor by the Kansas Board of Regents.
