Campus community encouraged to volunteer for The Big Event at KU

LAWRENCE — The Big Event at KU will stage a day of community engagement and service later this month, and University of Kansas students, faculty and staff are encouraged to volunteer.

The Big Event will run from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 21, with volunteers meeting at the Burge Union before dispersing to job sites. Volunteers may sign up as a group to represent their area of interest or as an individual to be paired with others. All volunteers receive a T-shirt, free breakfast, swag from sponsors and two community service hours.

An itinerary of the day:

9 a.m.: Volunteers arrive to the Burge Union and check in depending on if they are the group primary contact, a group member or an individual. Individuals will be placed into groups and learn about their job site.

9:45 a.m.: Groups will head down to the tool area in waves. By 10 a.m., all groups should be heading to their job site.

Noon: Volunteers will wrap up their work at their assigned job site and return to the Burge Union to return any tools used. Some groups may finish early.
