KU to host 22nd annual event exploring latest in geographic information systems
LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas will host the 22nd annual GIS Day @ KU, an educational event to promote awareness of geographic information systems and the latest developments in the field. This free public virtual event begins at 9 a.m. Nov. 15.
GIS experts from academia and the private sector will give presentations for the Zoom event, password 2023. A full schedule is below:
- 9:45-10 a.m.: Welcome by David Mechem, professor and chair, Department of Geography & Atmosphere Science, KU
- 10-11 a.m.: “Translating Water Science for Environmental Security,” presented by Mike Gremillion, Global Water Security Center of the Alabama Water Institute, University of Alabama
- 11 a.m.-noon: “DA2 for GIS Field Data Collection,” presented by Bryce Hirschman, GISP, JEO Consulting Group, Lawrence
- 1-2 p.m.: “Applying GIS and Big Data for Enhanced Spatial-Temporal Analysis of Urban Development and Disaster Preparedness,” by Yoonjung Ahn, assistant professor of geography & atmosphere science
- 2-3 p.m.: “Thinking Like a Geographer and Building Apps,” Titus Maxwell, technical consultant for ESRI.
