A century of music: KU School of Music to celebrate 100th Vespers performance

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas School of Music invites the public to celebrate a major milestone this year as the beloved annual Vespers Concert turns 100.

Vespers has a special celebration planned at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Lied Center of Kansas. In addition to performances and seasonal sounds from choral and instrumental ensembles, the School of Music will also feature a special Alumni Choir filled with performers from decades past.

"The 100th anniversary of our Vespers Concert marks an extraordinary milestone, not only for the KU School of Music but also for the entire Lawrence community. This celebration is a testament to the rich musical tradition and cultural legacy that Vespers has built over the past century,” said Paul Popiel, dean of the School of Music. “It’s a joy to reflect on the countless performers, conductors and audience members who have been part of this cherished event, and we look forward to sharing this special occasion with new and returning guests alike."
