Daniel Hernández awarded Morrison Foundation Teaching Award
LAWRENCE – Daniel Hernández, assistant professor of mathematics, received the 2020 Morrison Foundation Teaching Award. This award was established in 2008 by the Don and Pat Morrison Foundation to recognize outstanding teaching in mathematics. The Department of Mathematics selects a recipient each year in recognition of exemplary teaching and an ongoing active research program.
Hernández received his doctorate in 2011 from the University of Michigan. Before coming to KU in 2016 he was a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the universities of Utah and Michigan. He was also a postdoctoral fellow at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in the Commutative Algebra Program. His research is supported by the National Science Foundation, and he has a collaboration grant with the American Institute of Mathematics. He is a mentor for the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and the Math Alliance, a national community of math sciences faculty and students.
Hernández was featured on the American Mathematical Society’s 2017 Lathisms calendar, and he received a 2018 Grant Goodman Undergraduate Mentor Award from the College.
