First dean of the School of Business candidate to present March 27

LAWRENCE — Jide Wintoki, Capitol Federal Professor of Finance, will be the first dean candidate to share his vision and strategies for the future of the University of Kansas School of Business.

Wintoki’s presentation is set for 4-5 p.m. March 27 in Room 1020 of Capitol Federal Hall. The event will also be livestreamed, and the passcode is 800688.

Wintoki additionally serves as the business school’s associate dean of graduate programs.

The remaining candidates will be announced approximately two business days before their respective campus visits. Their presentations will also take place 4-5 p.m. in Room 1020 of Capitol Federal Hall on the following dates:

  • Candidate 2: April 3
  • Candidate 3: April 8
  • Candidate 4: April 10

Wintoki first joined the School of Business in 2008. Since 2020, he has overseen all business doctoral and master’s programs, including those at the Lawrence and Leavenworth campuses, as well as the school’s online MBA program. He previously served as the area director of analytics, information and operations management.

In 2017, Wintoki additionally was a visiting financial economist in the Office of Litigation Economics within the Division of Economic and Risk Analysis at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Since 2023, he also has been a member of the leadership team for the National Science Foundation-funded Environmentally Applied Refrigerant Technology Hub Engineering Research Center.

Wintoki’s research broadly focuses on corporate and international finance with an emphasis on corporate governance, and he has also examined the intersections of marketing and finance.

In addition, Wintoki has received several awards for his papers and teaching including the MBA Finance Faculty Outstanding Teaching Award, the Southern Finance Association Meeting’s Best Empirical Finance Paper and the Association of Business Doctoral Students of KU School of Business’ mentor recognition award.

Wintoki earned his doctorate in finance from the University of Georgia and his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Lagos in Nigeria.

The School of Business Dean search committee includes representatives from faculty, staff, students and alumni and is being led by Ann Brill, dean of the William Allen White School of Journalism & Mass Communications, and Jason Hornberger, vice provost of finance.
