Graduates of KLETC’s 360th Basic Training Class take oath of office
HUTCHINSON — Family members and friends gathered at Integrity Hall on July 31 to celebrate the graduation of the 360th Basic Training Class at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center.
The ceremony marked the completion of basic training as graduates took the law enforcement oath and officially began their careers serving communities across Kansas.
In addition to recognizing the graduating class, KLETC presented several awards for outstanding achievement during basic training. Eleven graduates received Physical Fitness Awards, one graduate earned the Director’s Award, and five graduates received Honors Awards. A complete list of award recipients and graduates follows.
Training Administrator Mike Satterlee introduced the class before U.S. Rep. Ron Estes addressed the graduates, encouraging them as they begin their careers in law enforcement.
“In Kansas, our communities are built on the bedrock of strong values: trust, hard work, personal responsibility and looking out for our neighbors,” Estes said. “Law enforcement officers are the visible backbone of those values.
“Every time you put on that uniform, respond to a call or walk a beat in your hometown, you represent something far larger than yourselves,” he said. “You represent justice, stability and peace of mind for the citizens you serve.”
Class President Officer Clayton Wilson of the Coffeyville Police Department reflected on the class accomplishments and the bonds formed during 14 weeks of training.
“Everyone in this room should be immensely proud of you,” Wilson said. “I know that I am.
“I can already tell every one of you, thank you for your service,” he said. “We came together as strangers. We grew into a community, and within that community, you’ve already done an outstanding job preparing to protect and serve.”
The Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center, a division of the University of Kansas since 1968, serves as the state’s central training agency for law enforcement officers.
Under the authority of Vice Provost and Director of Police Training Darin Beck, graduates received certificates attesting to the satisfactory completion of a full-time basic course of instruction and certification as Kansas law enforcement officers from the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training, the state’s law enforcement licensing authority.
