LAWRENCE — Chancellor Douglas A. Girod has approved the promotion and award of tenure, where indicated, for 64 individuals at the University of Kansas Lawrence and Edwards campuses and 85 individuals at the KU Medical Center campuses.

Promotions for tenure-track faculty and scholarly positions include review by the University Committee on Promotion and Tenure and final approval by the chancellor.

In addition, nine people have earned specialty and career teaching faculty promotions in the past year as of April 30. Promotions for career teaching and specialty faculty are determined and awarded through school or departmental reviews.

Girod, Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Barbara Bichelmeyer – who chairs the University Committee on Promotion and Tenure on the Lawrence campus – and Interim Executive Vice Chancellor at KU Medical Center Matthias Salathe issued a joint statement on the accomplishment of these faculty members.

“Congratulations to these dedicated faculty and researchers on a significant milestone in their careers. Their contributions in classrooms, labs and cross-disciplinary learning spaces help elevate student success and KU’s position as a leading research institution. Together, we build upon a culture of continuous improvement and work toward our mission of educating leaders, building healthy communities and making discoveries that change the world.

“Thank you to the promotion and tenure committees on both campuses for their invaluable service of assessing the many eligible candidates. Please join us in congratulating these scholars and educators for their efforts and achievement.”

Promotion and tenure are effective by or at the start of the fall semester.
