KU Engineering summer camp registration now open

LAWRENCE — Registration is now open for 2026 KU Engineering summer camp at the University of Kansas. This year’s theme is “Re-Engineer the World” and asks campers, “If you had the opportunity to re-engineer the world, would you take it?”

Two separate, overnight, weeklong camps are offered:

“Camp is a unique opportunity for students to get an in-depth exploration of the wonders of engineering through hands-on activities,” said Meredith Morris Whyte, KU Engineering director of recruitment and outreach. “The experience also provides an introduction to KU engineering facilities and faculty, the KU campus and the broader Lawrence community.”

KU Engineering summer camps — in one form or another — date back to the 1890s. Camp has taken many forms over years, but an immersive, hands-on engineering experience has always been a key element.

Since 2022, more than 850 people have participated in camp, and nearly one-third of those participants eventually attend KU.

“Camp provides a wonderful opportunity for students from all parts of the state to envision themselves as an engineer,” Morris Whyte said. “It’s also a great chance for students to experience the strong sense of community that embodies Jayhawk engineering. This is never more evident than when our former campers arrive on campus as first-year students and encounter their fellow campers or past camp leaders. That truly captures the sense of community fostered at the KU School of Engineering.”

All students regardless of proximity to the Lawrence campus are required to stay overnight in the residence hall for the duration of camp. Contact engrsummercamp@ku.edu with questions.
