KU Engineering’s Tiberti Lecture returns with a focus on leadership in the field
LAWRENCE – Katie Schultz, vice president of engineering resources at Black & Veatch, will deliver this year’s J.A. Tiberti Family Lecture at the University of Kansas School of Engineering.

Schultz, who graduated from the Department of Civil, Environmental & Architectural Engineering in 2003, will deliver this year’s lecture at 2:30 p.m. March 10 in the Beren Auditorium. Her lecture is titled “From Problem Solver to Impact Builder: The Engineer’s Leadership Journey.”
“Engineering school trains us to solve complex technical problems, but the challenges that define our careers are rarely technical – they’re human,” Schultz said. “Real impact comes from understanding what drives people, including ourselves. My journey from entry-level engineers to vice president of engineering resources has shown me that leadership isn’t a title you receive but a capability you build through the intentional choices you make every day.”
Schultz was inducted into the CEAE Academy in 2024 for her professional achievements, civic service and advocacy in support of the department. During her time at Black & Veatch, she has developed several programs within the company designed to empower young engineers and prepare them for the changing world.
“The Tiberti Lecture series is a wonderful opportunity for the department to come together around topics that are so critical for success in engineering and making an impact with your career,” said Caroline Bennett, chair of the CEAE department. “Students and colleagues will not be disappointed.”
The J.A. Tiberti Family Lecture began in 2011 through a contribution from the members of the Tiberti family to the KU Department of Civil, Environmental & Architectural Engineering. Topics focus on ethics, ingenuity, entrepreneurship and issues for the education, personal growth and professional development benefit of students.
