The gathering, March 31 and April 1, brings together cybersecurity experts from industry and research to the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence.

This collaborative event fosters critical dialogue on cybersecurity policy, education and strategy.

Attendees will explore real-world case studies and gain insights from subject matter experts representing academia, federal agencies and the private sector.

Conference highlights include:

  • Keynote speeches from Brett Leatherman, assistant director for the FBI, and Shawn Geib, chief information security officer at the Kansas City National Security Campus for the National Nuclear Security Administration.

  • A fireside chat between Leatherman and George Schultzel, FBI legal attaché to Bucharest.
  • Presentations from information technology leaders from KC 2026 (Kansas City’s World Cup organizing entity), Sporting KC and the Kansas City Chiefs.
  • Discussions from KU researchers specializing in ransomware, medicine and more.
  • Remarks from Chancellor Douglas A. Girod.

“Because cybersecurity is among the University of Kansas’ academic strengths and a critical issue for the nation, there are no better partners than KU and the FBI for a conference on this topic,” said Perry Alexander, AT&T Foundation Distinguished Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Institute for Information Sciences director. “Attendees benefit from access to top cybersecurity experts in research, industry and the FBI — and the ideas generated when these groups gather together.”

Registration is $213 for the conference, which will take place at the new KU Conference Center in the Lawrence campus’s Gateway District. Additional information is available at the conference website.

Members of the media wanting to cover keynote speakers or remarks at the conference should contact FBI Public Affairs Specialist Dixon Land at dcland@fbi.gov for media credentials or via phone at 816-512-8200 by March 25.
