KU receives positive rating for Stop Campus Hazing Act Compliance

LAWRENCE — A national hazing prevention organization has recognized the University of Kansas for its compliance with the federal Stop Campus Hazing Act.

In December 2024, Congress passed the Stop Campus Hazing Act, which amended the Clery Act and added several requirements for institutions of higher education, including:

  • Start collecting statistics for hazing incidents in 2025.
  • Implement hazing policies, procedures and prevention programs.
  • Have a public-facing webpage with information about hazing statistics, policies, how to report and laws.
  • Publish a Campus Hazing Transparency Report (if the institution has a finding of responsibility for violations of the institution’s hazing policy).

The law went into effect in January 2025.

HazingInfo.org researched U.S. colleges and universities for compliance with the new federal act and gave KU a positive rating for the categories of Campus Hazing Transparency Report, Hazing Prevention Policy and Hazing Reporting Form.

“I’m happy their review showed KU is meeting the requirements. Compliance with the new Stop Campus Hazing Act as well as all other aspects of the Clery Act is a team effort,” said Jason Goodman, KU director of clery compliance. “It takes many members from several departments across the university to succeed. Special thanks to members of Student Affairs at KULC and KUMC, Policy Administration and the Office of Civil Rights & Title IX for their work helping us comply with the Stop Campus Hazing Act.”
