LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas School of Business will begin offering an online version of its Master of Science in Business Analytics program this fall to better serve working professionals.

Aimed at individuals wanting to advance or pivot their careers, the STEM-certified program blends business strategy with technical skills in a flexible online format.

“We know many capable professionals want to deepen their analytics expertise but need a program that fits their lives,” said KU School of Business Dean Jide Wintoki. “This online program creates more pathways for people to access a KU Business graduate degree that can help them turn data into better decisions.”

The online Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) is offered in partnership with Everspring Inc., an educational design, technology and services provider that works with leading universities to deliver high‑quality online programs. The online MSBA builds on KU’s more than decadelong partnership with Everspring, which also supports the school’s online MBA.

The School of Business launched its Lawrence campus MSBA in fall 2020. The online MSBA curriculum will closely follow that of the in-person program, including courses focused on artificial intelligence. It also will incorporate electives from KU’s online MBA program, which U.S. News & World Report ranks No. 8 overall.

Courses will build statistical knowledge and data management skills while also preparing students to make data-driven strategic decisions and communicate insights through storytelling. The online MSBA will be taught by KU Business faculty, including research-active faculty who bring expertise on topics shaping today’s business challenges.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects employment of data scientists to grow 34% from 2024 to 2034, much faster than the average for all occupations.

Dee Steinle, executive director of MBA and M.S. programs, said that offering KU's MSBA online helps meet the growing demand for analytics talent.

"Across industries, organizations are looking for professionals who can not only analyze data but also translate it into strategic insight,” Steinle said. “Expanding the KU MSBA to the online space allows us to prepare more graduates with the analytics skills needed to support smarter decision-making.”

Offering the MSBA online also allows students to pursue KU’s dual MBA/MSBA fully online, further supporting their executive preparation.

The KU School of Business online MSBA requires 30 credit hours and can be completed in as few as five semesters, or about 21 months. The program includes three-credit-hour courses and is designed for students to take one class at a time in succession.
